BY the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee, efforts are being made to take effective action against illegal trades across the country.
On
14 April, combined teams led by the Region Forest Department under the
management of the Regional Illegal Trade Eradication Special Task Force conducted
inspections in Hlegu and Hmawby townships. They seized 8.6942 tonnes of illegal
Pyin Ka Toe (hardwood) and teak (estimated value of K2,572,780) and two trucks
that carried this illegal wood (estimated value of K60,000,000) and took action
under the Forest Law.
On
15 April, the combined team seized 6.4256 tonnes of illegal Kanyin (estimated
value of K449,792) in Hlegu Township and a truck (estimated value of
K32,000,000) that carried this illegal wood and 3.324 tonnes of illicit timbers
(estimated value of K159,850) in Taikgyi Township, totally calculated at
K95,182,422 and took action under the Forest Law.
Similarly,
on 16 April, combined teams led by the Region Forest Department under the
management of the Bago Regional Illegal Trade Eradication Special Task Force
conducted inspections in Bago, Toungoo, Pyay and Thayawady districts and seized
13.2554 tonnes of teak, timbers and other wood (estimated value of K2,026,974)
and took action under the Forest Law.
Therefore, according to the committee, 13 arrests (estimated value of K97,209,396) were made on 14, 15 and 16 Seized timbers and lorry in Yangon. Con
