THE closing ceremony of the Yangon Maha Thingyan Pandal was held yesterday at 5 pm.
Yangon
Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein, Yangon Region Command Commander Maj-Gen
Nyunt Win Swe, Minister for Security and Border Affairs Colonel Win Tint,
Yangon Mayor U Bo Htay, Yangon Region cabinet ministers, the deputy mayor of
the Yangon City Development Committee, the committee secretary and members,
diplomats, military attaches, and officials from foreign embassies in Myanmar,
heads of Yangon City Development Committee departments, officials, staff and
family members from the Myanmar Motion Picture Organization, Myanmar Music
Association, Myanmar Theatrical Association and invitees attended the ceremony.
First,
departmental and district dance troupes performed the Kyaukse Elephant Dance.
Artistes
from the Myanmar Music Association, Myanmar Motion Picture Organization and
Myanmar Theatrical Association performed dances and songs. At the same time,
the Yangon Region Women’s Sports and Physical Education Sub-Committee also
entertained modern dances.
In
the evening, the closing ceremony of the 1383 ME Myanma Traditional Thingyan
Festival was held.
Yangon
Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein said that it is a transition of a new year
from 1383 to 1384, which is also the last day of the year. On an auspicious
day, he wished all the city people possess peace of mind and happiness.
Next,
Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein announced the 1383 ME Yangon Maha
Thingyan Water Festival’s winding up.
Afterwards,
he presented the prizes to 12 winners of the dance troupes. Next, Yangon Region
Command Commander Maj-Gen Nyunt Win Swe presented awards to the winning teams
from the 16-woman choral dance competition. Yangon Region High Court Chief
Justice Daw Sandar Thwe presented awards to 20 winning dancers, and Yangon
Region Minister for Security and Border Affairs presented consolation prizes to
12 dancers.
Next,
Yangon Mayor U Bo Htay presented another consolation award to 16 dancers, and
Yangon Region Advocate General U Htay Aung presented consolation prizes to the
remaining 20 dancers.
After
that, the award-winning dance troupes and artistes entertained with dances and
the Yangon Maha Thingyan Water Festival concluded successfully.
Along
with the Yangon Region chief minister and officials, diplomats and military
attaches also attended the Walking Thingyan near the Maha Bandoola Park starting
from the pre-Thingyan day.
