THE National Literary Award Selection Committee of the Ministry of Information has announced the recipients of the National Literary Awards for 2020, and authors U Maung Maung Latt (Naung), U Sein Hlaing (Thura Zaw), and Daw Cho Cho Tin (Ma Sandar) were awarded the National Lifetime Award for Literary Achievement for 2020.
The National Literary Award
Selection Committee reviewed books published for the first time in 2020 and
released a list of winners yesterday.
Author Ma Chuu Pwint won the novel
category with “Pyauk-Sone-Thwar-Thaw- Hnin-Sat-Myar (or)- Hninsat-Ponepyin”
(Tat Toe Publishing House); Chit Su Aung won the poem category (classic) for
“Myin-Moe-Seik-Ku-Kabyar-Myar” (Sarpay Beikman); Aung Kaung Myit won the poem
category (modern) for “Di-Nay-Pan Tway-Pwint-Dai” (Seikku Cho Cho); Mya Than San
won the literary miscellany award for “Parmokkha-Chote-Sayadaw-Doctor-Ashin
Nandamala Bhivamsa-Ei- Bawakhayee-Hnit-Dama-Seemee” (Appa Marda magazine); Naing
Zaw won the Myanmar culture and art category for “Shay-Haung-yinkyaymu-Asinalar-Amway
Anit-Takatho-Pyinnyar-Thinkyar-Khaiyarmyar (Thiri Wutsa Sar Pay); Ye Min Win
won the translation category (knowledge) for “Pyit-Hmat” (Thar Nge Publishing House);
Dr Aung Myint Oo won the knowledge category (art) for
“Sarpay-Pinlae-Htaika-Kabyar-Hline-Kalay” (Aya Wun Publishing House); Dr U Hla
Kyi (Kalay Kyan Mar Yay) won the knowledge category (applied science) for
“Kalay-Kyanmar-Phwintphyo-Yay-Naing-Ngan-Totatmhu- Hnit-Khae-Seik-Anayai” (Shin
Mataung Sar Pay); Ma Nwet Ye (Maha Weizar) won the political literature award
for “Bogyoke Aung San-Ei-Naing-Ngan-Yay- Thabaw-Tayar-Amyin-Myar” (Kanote-Pan
Sarpay); Sithu Dr Thaw Kaung won the English Literature (general knowledge)
category for “Papers from my Shoulder Bag” (Myanmar Book Centre); Aye Phyu won
the English Literature (aesthetic) category for “A Motley Collection of My
Works” (Mon Myat Thu Sar Pay); Naing Win Thi won the aesthetic literature
(Essay) category for “Myo Kalay-Yai-Opera-Essay-Myar” (Thiri Wutsa Sar Pay).
The National Lifetime Award for
Literary Achievement is accompanied by K10 million each, while the rest of the
National Literary Awards by K3 million for each recipient. The selection was
done systematically by a 28-member committee of experts from different
professional fields through three stages.
Winners are urged to contact the
secretary of the Sarpay Beikman Prize Selection Committee at 01-240048 and the
Department of Administration at 01-381449.
They must bring two 5x8 inches
colour photos and two passport-size colour photos along with a brief personal
summary to the committee’s office within one week of this announcement. The
address of the committee is No 529/531, Merchant Street, Sarpay Beikman
Building, Yangon.
The awards will be conferred at the
award ceremony to be held at the Myawady Media Centre located on Mogaung Pagoda
Road, Yankin Township in Yangon Region on 4 December 2021 (Saturday).
