Aung headed UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy on Myanmar Ms Christine
Schraner Burgener and Rakhine State government officials to Maungtaw
Township yesterday morning.
The
Deputy Minister, the Special Envoy and party held talks with Head of
Maungtaw District General Administration Department U Soe Aung and
District Police Lt-Col Aung Myint Htay about development of Maungtaw
areas in one-year period, peace and stability of the area and matters
related to the returnees.
They also met with ethnic locals, Muslim people and Hindu community who are living harmoniously in Maungtaw Township to ask about their living conditions, livelihoods and assistance of the government.
Then, they talked with the returnees from the other country. At the meeting, the Special Envoy asked about their living and difficulties, government supports and their difficulties while they were taking shelters in the other country. She also privately met with women from the fled families.
In the afternoon, the Deputy Minister and party arrived back to Sittway by the military helicopter.
The Special Envoy and party held talks with Rakhine State Hluttaw Speaker U San Kyaw Hla and Deputy Speaker U Mya Than at the Hluttaw about IDPs, ceasefire talks, possibility of more returnee arrivals, views on 2020 General Election and holding elections in Rakine State.
