UEC Chairman separately meets DRI rep, ROK Amb





Union Election Commission Chairman U Hla Thein held two separate meetings with Ms Eva Gil, Resident Representative for Democracy Reporting International (DRI), and the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, Mr Lee Sang-hwa, at his office in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday. At the meeting with Ms Eva Gil at 10 am, both sides discussed implementation of a mobile application for disseminating electoral knowledge, compiling an election monitoring guide and conducting trainings, and matters related to civic education and voter education.

The UEC Chairman then met with the ROK Ambassador at 2 pm where they discussed preparations to make the 2020 General Elections free, fair, transparent, publicly trustworthy and in line with the people’s wishes.
They also discussed preparations for domestic migrant workers, people fleeing from conflict zones and citizens who will be abroad to be able to exercise their voting rights, invitations to domestic and foreign election monitoring groups, organizing ICT utilization and electoral management trainings, civic and voter education, protection mechanisms against hate speech, fake and incorrect news on social media during the election period, and possible cooperation on preparing for the upcoming general elections. UEC members and officials from its office were also present at both meetings.
