Tachilek in Shan State to hold Children’s Literary Festival

THE Information and Public Relations Department (IPRD) of the Ministry of Information and, the Basic Education Department (BED) and Tachilek District management department will hold the Children’s Literary Festival (Tachilek) on a grand scale on 25 and 26 June at the Basic Education High School in Makaho Hkam Ward, Tachilek.

The festival will be held with the goal of nurturing children to become life-long learners and book lovers, to have the habit of working in unity with others, and to become future leaders possessing a high level of knowledge and ability.
The festival will open 19 educative booths for broadening the children’s scope of knowledge, apart from culture booths of ethnic races including Shan, Lahu and Arka.
Talks and round table discussions on literature will also be held at the festival, and they will be opened to all. The festival will be further enlivened with book shows, book sales, poem recitation contest, storytelling contest, extempore talks, painting contest, paper folding contest, proverb solving contest, football match and other traditional competitions.
Students of schools in Tachilek will also perform entertainment programs at the festival, which will also stage elephant dances for the public.
The Ministry of Information, the Ministry of Education and the respective local governments jointly held the children’s literary festivals in Nay Pyi Taw, Mandalay, Mawlamyine, Taunggyi, Monywa, Yangon, Pathein, Myitkyina and Bago. Additionally, the local governments in cooperation with IPRD, BED, social organizations, book lovers and well-wishers also held the festivals in district capitals.
