THE signing ceremony for Letter of Agreement (LoA) on the
cooperation for UNFPA 4th Country Programme (2018- 2022) between the Government
of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and UNFPA was held on 12 July at
Ministry of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations, Nay Pyi Taw.
The Letter of Agreement (LoA) was signed by the U Than Aung
Kyaw, Director General of Foreign Economic Relations Department, Ministry of
Investment and Foreign Economic Relations and Mr. Ramanathan Balakrishnan,
UNFPA Representative in Myanmar.
This signing ceremony was attended by officials from
concerned ministries that are coordinating and implementing with UNFPA, and
officials from UNFPA.
UNFPA 4th Country Programme (2018-2022)will be implemented
with estimated budget US$ 20.0 million in the areas of sexual and reproductive
health, gender equality and women’s empowerment and population dynamics in the
collaboration with concerned ministries.
Since 2002, UNFPA has implemented three programmes in
Myanmar. The 1st UNFPA program of assistance to Myanmar (2002-2006) with US$ 16
million, The 2nd UNFPA program of assistance to Myanmar (2007-2011) with US$
25.2 million and the 3rd UNFPA program of assistance to Myanmar (2012- 2017)
with US$ 37.5 million were implemented in the areas of sexual and reproductive
health, gender equality and women’s empowerment and population dynamics.
