Union Minister Dr. Win Myat Aye attends the National Consultation Workshop for Beijing Platforms for Action+25 Country Report

 A WORKSHOP on the National Consultation Workshop for Beijing Platforms for Action+25 Country Report was held, yesterday, at the Mingalar Thiri Hotel, Nay Pyi Taw, where Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr. Win Myat Aye attended and delivered an opening speech.

In his opening speech at the workshop, Union Minister Dr. Win Myat Aye said that Myanmar attended the Fourth World Conference on Women in 1995, and established the Myanmar National Committee on Women — MNCW in 1996, as an effort to play an active role in women’s empowerment, and later the MNCW has been reformed, in cooperation with departments and CSOs, according to the State’s policies.
The National Strategic Plan for the Advancement of Women (NSPAW) (2013-2022) has based on 12 Priority Areas of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action – BPFA and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) and which has set up for working committees that aimed at implementing the process.
The national-level review on Asia-Pacific Regional implementation would be conducted at the Asia Pacific Intergovernmental Meeting on the Beijing + 25 in November 2019. The review of global implementation would be carried out at the Commission on the Status of Women meeting in March 2020.
As for the Myanmar National Committee for Women’s Affairs, concerted efforts would be needed to make the review of the National Strategic Plan for the Advancement of Women (NSPAW) while implementing the Myanmar Sustainable Development Plan (MSDP). Thus participants were urged to make open discussion on the positions of women and their empowerment.
Then participants took part in the discussion on the process of the Fourth World Conference on Women in 1995, measures on 12 Priority Areas of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, women and careers, women and leadership, women and healthcare, women and preventive measures on violence against women and implementation process.
