A ceremony to provide input equipment to protect against the
fall army-worm and hand out Good Agricultural Practice G.A.P certificates took
place at the Aung Mingalar Hall in Hsenwi Township, Shan State, on 21 April.
Dr. Aung Thu, the Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock
and Irrigation, delivered a speech at the ceremony, where he highlighted the
challenges of climate change and pests on agricultural production and what
needs to be done to resolve these issues. The Union Minister then handed over
pesticide sprayers and personal protective clothing and Shan State Minister for
Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, U Sai Lone Kyaw, handed over pesticide
for the farmers to a representative. Additionally, Permanent Secretary Dr. Khin
Zaw and Dr. Ye Tint Tun, the Director-General of the Agriculture Department,
handed over maize seeds and fertilizers donated by C.P Company and G.A.P
certificates to officials respectively. In the afternoon, the Union Minister
and delegation attended a meeting with department officials in Shwe Li Yadanar
meeting hall in Muse Township. He instructed them to be extra diligent in preventing
diseases transmitted from animals, continue the meat industry in Mya Sein Yaung
Village, upgrade laboratories in the border regions, hire additional staff, and
cooperate with relevant departments to monitor and prevent illegal
transportation of animals and animal products through the border gates.
Afterwards, the Union Minister and delegation travelled to
Namtu Family Dairy Farm near the 105-milepost in Muse Township and inspected
the cattle and silage production.
