OVER 120 regional and private business projects worth a total potential value of more than USD$3 billion (about MMK$4.6 trillion) will be showcased at the upcoming Invest Myanmar Summit, happening on 28 and 29 January 2019 at the Myanmar Convention Centre 2 (MICC-2) in Nay Pyi Taw. Local and international investors who attend the event will be among the first to explore key investing projects in Myanmar.
“With the projects on showcase, local and international investors at the Summit will have a very clear picture of the prospects they can look forward to when investing in Myanmar, the industries they can invest in, and types of projects open to them in each state and region,” said U Zaw Min Win, President, Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (‘UMFCCI’).
One of these prospects is the
development of Myotha Industrial Park City (‘MIPC’) in Mandalay Region.
The MIPC currently holds the highest value in the Project Data Bank thus
far and promises to open up to 33,700 jobs1 in 5 target industries:
infrastructure, labour intensive-industries like food and wood
processing, capital-intensive industries like pharmaceutical and
renewable energy production, consumer services and producer services
like banking and finance.
Other highlights of the Summit include the launch of the National Project Bank, a centralised database of key projects which will enable effective implementation of the Myanmar Sustainable Development Programme (‘MSDP’), and the participation of ten of Myanmar’s regions and states. “We will be unveiling two key information packages at the Invest Myanmar Summit 2019,” said U Wai Phyo, Chairman of Invest Myanmar Summit 2019. “The first is the MSDP, the second the National Project Bank. Summit participants will be the first to hear key facts and insights from Dr. Set Aung and U Min Ye Paing Hein, the authors of these two landmark documents.”
Other speakers at the Summit will include State Counsellor H.E. Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, newly minted Union Minister of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations H.E. U Thaung Tun, Mr. Serge Pun, Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of New Yangon Development Company Ltd., and Mr. Yuan Shaobin, Managing Director of CITIC Group (Myanmar) Co., Ltd.
As the first nationwide collaboration between Myanmar’s Central Government and its private sector, the Summit will host Union Government Ministers, key representatives from eight key industries, and State and Regional government representatives. Private business exhibitors will also be present to showcase their business projects and speak with prospective partners.
Attendees of the Summit will also have the option to request appointments with key Ministry and industry representatives to facilitate targeted, fruitful discussions.
