MINISTER for Electricity and Energy U Win Khaing and Rakhine State Chief
Minister U Nyi Pu visited the Thuhtay hydro-electric project, implemented by
No. 4 Construction, Hydropower Implementation Department, located some 12 miles
north east of Thandwe Town, Thandwe District, Rakhine State, on Saturday and
inspected the status of the works conducted, according to the Rakhine State
government.
The
union minister first inspected the miniature model of the project, while
officials explained the project to him. The union minister then gave the
necessary instructions.
Next,
the union minister visited the tunnel and inspected the earth digging and
concrete works conducted for the inlet to the No. 2 diversion tunnel and the
tunnel water control gate, strengthening works on the tunnel and the concrete
work of the outlet tunnel.
The
union minister then inspected the construction status of
No. 1 diversion tunnel.
Later,
the union minister observed the status of the work completed at the project
site, and commented on it and provided instructions, while the officials
explained the project.
The
Thuhtay hydroelectric project is constructing a dam and a 111-MW power station
on Thuhtay River. After the power station is completed, it will generate 386
KWh of electricity annually for distribution to regions in Rakhine State. The
project is
now 47.77 per cent complete.
On
the morning of 6 May, the union minister inspected the Thandwe 66 KV 10 MVA
Nanchaung Substation. At the (substation) briefing hall, Ministry of
Electricity and Energy, Electricity Supply Enterprise Managing Director U Saw
Win Maung explained the reception, transmission and distribution status of the
substation, the status of distributing electricity to Rakhine State and the
additional requirements when Kyaukpyu Special Economic Zone will be
implemented. An official from Myanmar Petroleum Products Enterprise (Thandwe)
explained the status of the transport, reception and distribution of petroleum
products. Deputy Minister Dr. Tun Naing provided additional explanations, and
the union minister and the chief minister discussed and raised questions.
Later, the union minister and chief minister met and encouraged the staff and
then inspected the switchyard in the substation.
