KIA attacks team sent by Kachin State Government to collect household data


A team sent by Kachin State Government to collect household data on displaced persons from the Aung Lawd region, Tanai Township, and to provide assistance, was attacked by KIA on the afternoon of 5 May.


A car from Myittashin Funeral Assistance Association was hit but no one was hurt.

A five-car team of Tanai Township head of General-Administration Department, personnel from state immigration and population department, government departments and civil society organisations left Tanai Town on the afternoon of 5 May, and on reaching some 6 miles southeast of Myoma Police Station, a force of some five KIA armed personnel shot at the cars. The front tyre of the last car in the Myittashin Funeral Assistance Association in the five-car team was hit but no one was hurt. The Tatmadaw personnel responsible for road security returned fire and drove away the attackers. The five-car team was able to continue its journey after changing the damaged tyre.

The team sent to Aung Lawd region inspected the houses in the village and found no damage or destruction, but no villagers were present in the village, except some more than 50 cows, chickens and pigs. The team then returned to Tanai Town, reaching at 6.30 p.m.
