Union Minister visits 25-year old handicraft industry

Union Minister for Information Dr Pe Myint visited Shan traditional handicraft industry in Lashio in the northeast of Myanmar yesterday morning.

Accompanied Ethnic Bamar Affairs Minister Dr Than Maung, the Union minister arrived at Ward 12 of the second largest city in Shan State, and was welcomed by Shan elders, families of the industry and traditional dances.
He then looked into the requirements in making traditional Kinnari and Kinnara figures (mythical bird-like humans), Toeniya figures (dragon-like ceremonial creatures) and Shan traditional musical instrument including famous long-drums.
U Sai has been running the industry as a family business in preserving and protecting the Shan traditional heritage for over 25 years.
