16th China-Myanmar Border Trade Fair held in Shweli

The opening ceremony of 16th China-Myanmar Border Trade Fair 2017 was held yesterday at Shweli (Ruili) Town in Yunnan Province, China.

Deputy Minister for Commerce U Aung Htoo attended and delivered an opening speech about promotion of bilateral friendship, economic cooperation and alliances in the commerce sector for sustainable development.
In addition to the border trade fair, a Joint Border Trade Cooperation and Coordination Committee (JBTCCC) will be held with representatives from the two countries who will discuss and negotiate about trade development. Myanmar-China border trade for FY 2016-2017 increased by US$ 1 billion, and total trade for this FY including trading by sea hit US$10.81 billion. The 105th-Mile Trade Zone in Muse plays an important role for Myanmar-China border trade and is also a strategic trade zone among the South-east Asian and South Asian countries.
With the aims of bilateral trade development and promoting economic cooperation, the trade fair was held with the theme, “Opening doors, investing, cooperation and sharing benefits.”
Since 2001, the China-Myanmar Trade Fair has been held annually. Myanmar exhibits 54 stalls from 39 companies and China showcases around 150 booths at this year’s China-Myanmar Border Trade Fair.
Kachin State Minister for Planning and Commerce U Wai Lin, Myanmar Consul-General U Soe Paing, Directors-General, Myanmar business persons from Myanmar side and government officials from Yunnan Province and business persons from China attended the opening ceremony. — Myanmar News Agency
