The
second Yangon Weekend Book Street where nearly 170 shops and stalls are selling
books and souvenirs is busy with the bookworms, writers, publishers and book
sellers.
“Thanks
to the officials who organize such a fair where books of various fields are
found at a single place.
So
books that may be hard to find in other places are now available here,” said U
Maung Maung a book buyer.
Normally,
we could sell few books as we were doing business on roadside platforms. I have
a stock of old books which I sold at a unit price of Ks 200, Ks500 or Ks 1000.
Now business is good as more book lovers come, said a book seller.
At
the Yangon book street, various subjects of books, fiction, non-fiction, novel,
novella, world leaders’ historic books and photo albums, religious, social,
education, health and culture books, medical books, English-Myanmar
dictionaries, story books, astrology books and old notes and coins, Myanmar
handicrafts, paintings, Myanmar symbols texted shirts and bags are displayed.
The
fair is also a place where writers and readers meet and caricature drawings by
cartoonists are available. Author Daw Than Myint Aung was also present at the
fair to sign her book and give literacy talk.
The
Yangon Weekend Book Street organized by the Ministry of Information and Yangon
City Development Committee (YCDC) was opened in front of the Directorate of
Printing and Publishing on Thein Phyu road.
