Senior General
Min Aung Hlaing received the Hon. Rex Tillerson, United States Secretary of
State, at Zayya Thiri Beikman receiving hall in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday
afternoon.
During the
meeting, the Senior General discussed the ARSA terrorists attacks on Rakhine
State’s security stations.
Mr. Tillerson
expressed his sorrow on loss of lives during ARSA’s terrorist attacks in
Rakhine State.
He also spoke of
the continuing good relations between Myanmar and Bangladesh.
The US Secretary
of State advised Myanmar to cooperate internationally and also expressed the
goodwill of the US for Myanmar to succeed in its transition to democracy.
He also asked
for details about the current situations in Myanmar.
The Senior
General pointed out the connection of the most recent terrorist attacks on 25
August with attacks that occurred on 9 October 2016 and also explained what he
said were the “right and equal reaction of the Myanmar Tatmadaw to terrorists”
and the “wrong views and thoughts from international media”.
Also discussed
were the processes that should be followed for relaying accurate information
about Rakhine issues to international media, sharing views on the resettlement
process being implemented by the government of Myanmar for the Islamic people
who arrived back to Myanmar and bilateral cooperation between the two countries
on combating drugs and terrorist attacks.
