Myanmar-India border trade decreased by $15 million this FY

 October 3, 2017
BILATERAL trade between Myanmar and India via land borders amounted to more than US$32.7 million in the first half of this fiscal year, according to the latest statistics released by the Ministry of Commerce.

The current trade value is over $15 million less than that of the same period of last fiscal year’s total of $48.122 million.

Of the total, Myanmar’s exports to India reached about $26 million and its imports from the second largest neighbour were about $6.8 million as of September 22. The trade between the two countries through the Tamu border gate showed a decline in both exports and imports, while bilateral trade from the Reed border trade station showed a slight increase of $3.3 million.

Myanmar chiefly exports agricultural products, marine products, and forestry products to the Indian market. Imports from India include medicine and medical equipment, consumer goods, electronic appliances, and other commodities.

Myanmar-India trade is conducted through the Tamu and Reed border points of entry as well as shipping.
