Annual farm
machinery operation courses are being held for the convenience of rice
harvesting in Maungtaw region the rice bowl of northern Rakhine State.
“Agricultural
Mechanization Department-AMD is conducting both the long-term and shortterm
courses annually. The shortterm course lasts for 14 days. The courses enable
farmers to operate their own farm machinery. The courses include the use and
repair of power-tillers and pumps. Last year the courses were held at two
different places,” said head of Rakhine State ADM.
As there is no
adequate number of skilled operators in the region yet, skilled staffs of the
AMDs of other regions and states were hired for mechanized harvesting and
winnowing. “As for operating heavy machinery, farmers can attend the Central
Agricultural Mechanization School in Meiktila. It is a four-month course. The
school’s admittance system prioritizes children of peasants. It is accepting
nearly 1000 trainees every year. Trainees from Kyauktaw and MraukU are now
attending the course. The course enables them to skillfully operate heavy farm
machinery,” he said.
