Experts discuss stepping up efforts for wildlife conservation

A workshop on implementation of Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) and coordination between related organisations and departments on preventing trade in endangered species was held yesterday morning in Ingyin hall of Director General’s office, Forest Department, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation.


Forest Department Director General Dr. Nyi Nyi Kyaw gave an opening speech at the workshop attended by officials of related organisations and departments consisting of General Administrative Department, Union Attorney General office, Department of Fisheries, Department of Trade, Transnational Crime Department, Police Force, border and ethnic nationals development department, customs department, road transport authority, non-government organizations such as European Union (EU), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), World Wildlife Fund (WW F), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and Fauna & Flora International (FFI).

Suggestions made at the workshop will be confirmed and implemented at the National Wildlife Enforcement Task Force meeting to be held on 10 August in Forest Department.
