State Counsellor
Daw Aung San Suu Kyi was present at the workshop of experts from Canada
regarding the effects of the federal system on social policies and economic
development, from relations between governmental organisations towards a
federal system, and the role of the judiciary as practiced by Canada arranged
by the Forum of Federations, held at Andaz Ottawa Market Hotel, in
Ottawa, Canada in the evening of 6 June.
During the discussions, the State Counsellor spoke words of thanks saying that the present workshop had been of great help for sharing experiences on federalism in Canada, for the process of setting up a federal democratic nation in Myanmar.
The forum was attended by 5 representatives from the Ministry of President’s Office, the Ministry of State Counsellor’s Office, the Office of the Union Attorney General, Peace Commission and Myanmar Central Bank, 4 representatives from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army), 4 representatives from National ethnic groups who signed NCA and one representative each from Wa special region and Maila special region. Forum of Federations is an organisation carrying out the tasks of upgrading capacity building since 2012, in Myanmar, with the support of the Canadian Government.
The organisation is working towards spreading knowledge on federal administration in Myanmar and for upgrading the administrative capacity of those concerned in making decisions on practical implementation of democracy and federalism, and making arrangements for representatives from government and Hluttaw, responsible officials from political parties, news media and civil societies to attend workshops on federalism.
