Authorities and military aid recovery in Mora-hit areas of Rakhine State

The Rakhine State Government took steps to provide aid to the people affected by Cyclone Mora in several areas in Rakhine State yesterday, a day after the cyclone wreaked havoc in the northern part of the state.

Concurrently, the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services and Commander-in-Chief (Army) Vice Senior General Soe Win visited military command areas in Rakhine State affected by cyclone.
The Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Win Myat Aye inspected the situation in Sittway, assisting in the delivery of aid to the victims and reconstruction and repair of buildings.
He also presented more than K34 million to the Rakhine State Government to spend on reconstruction and repair of damaged buildings in 10 townships.
Camps for internally displaced persons were also damaged by the cyclone, and plans are underway to repair and reconstruct them.
The Union Minister, together with Chief Minister of Rakhine State U Nyi Pu, visited the buildings damaged by Cyclone Mora, including Sittway Hospital, Sittway University, IDP camps and an untold number of houses.
Local authorities and residents have carried out evacuations, cleared roads and started to compile a list of damaged buildings.
After making landfall early Monday morning, the cyclone weakened as it travelled north through Bangladesh yesterday.
During his visit, the Union Minister and party spoke words of encouragement to the people who sought shelter at several monasteries during the storm — Maha Zeya Theiddi Adihtan and Seitta Thukha. The minister subsidised one week’s worth of ration money for  the victims. The Union Minister then handed over monetary aid amounting to Ks346.6 lakhs to 11 townships in Sittway, MraukU, Kyaukphyu and Thandwe districts for rehabilitation work, with the Chief Minister receiving the money.
At about the same time, the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services and Commander-in-Chief (Army) Vice Senior General Soe Win visited military command areas in Rakhine State affected by Cyclone Mora yesterday morning.
The Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services and Commander-in-Chief (Army) first inspected the cyclone-damaged areas in Sittway by car.
He then met cordially with teachers at the  Basic Education Sub-Middle School (Kyay Taw-b) in Kyay Taw Pike Sate Village, Sittway and coordinated to speedily repair the damaged roofs of the school rooms.
Later, he inspected the damage to the security command post office and battalion and regimental command post buildings and quarters in the Sittway military command area.

Afterward, he inspected the storm damage in the Buthidaung military command area.
Next, he visited and encouraged Tatmadaw personnel from the military command, Myanmar Police Force and Fire Services Department clearing trees felled by the cyclone on roads in Sittway and provided monetary presents.
Yesterday, Tatmadaw (Army, Navy, Air) families sent aid items for cyclone affected areas to Sittway by Tatmadaw airplanes. In the afternoon, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services and Commander-in-Chief (Army) Vice Senior General Soe Win presented cyclone-affected Tatmadaw personnel and families in Sittway airport with food and roofing materials.
