Agricultural service
centres will be established in 33 sites in states and regions within four
years, said an official from the Myanmar Rice Federation (MRF).
The agricultural
service centre will be set up with an aim to provide services to local farmers
and to develop the farming sector and rice sector.
“We have already
requested that private companies provide loans to implement the project in 33
places”, said U Ye Min Aung, the general secretary from MRF. The agricultural
service centres will distribute pedigree seeds for local farmers, build goduwns
for storing crops and rice drying machines in the post-harvest period, provide
transplanting machines, tractors and harvesting and threshing machines,
implement a contract farming system, distribute and sell fertilizer, rice
milling and generations of electricity from rice husks. The agricultural
service centres will be set up with the open tender system. An estimated cost
of the project is US$12.148 million. A total of 33 projects will cost
US$400.884 million.
