No one entered or exited the border gate at Maungtaw, despite
restrictions being recently lifted, according to the Immigration department.
“Since before now, no restrictions were made … but no one passed through the border gate at
Maungtaw, apart from commodity flow” said U Shar Mwe La Khun, head of the
immigration department .
“Bangladesh prohibited passing through the gate, so there was no one
coming in and going out”.
Passing through the gate is now allowed after careful scrutiny in accord
with the law. Two-night-and-three-day border passes and one-day border passes
are being granted.
Prior to the 9 October violent
armed attacks, there were up to 100 people leaving and entering the gate every
day, said U Shar Mwe La Khun.
