More than 1,000 traffic police to be deployed during Thingyan

April 4, 2017
MORE THAN 1,000 Yangon traffic police will be deployed during the Maha Thingyan Water Festival to be celebrated this month, according to a spokesperson of the Yangon Region Security and Law Enforcement Committee.

Under the arrangement of the committee, over 360 security members will be deployed at Yangon Mayor’s Central Pavilion. Other security members are planned to be placed at Kandawgyi Lake, Inya Lake and Thardu Lake. To protect holidaymakers, life-saving facilities such as inflatable tube and boats will also be put at those destinations.

As part of its efforts to reduce road accidents during the Thingyan New Year Festival, the committee is now accelerating its public awareness programmes in townships across the city, aiming to share knowledge on traffic rules and regulations.

The committee will provide traffic clearances services around water-throwing pandals by supervising undisciplined vehicles. Actions will be taken against those who fail to abide by the rules announced by the city authorities.
