March 30, 2017

Due to the water shortage in Haka, one tank of water is selling for between Ks20,000 and Ks40,000, depending on the location.

This current price prevailed between January and the end of March. Shwepyitha, Myothit, Hakathit wards are faced with a water shortage problem.

“This season, the water is scarce. The price of water is very expensive this year, compared to the same period last year, said a local resident from Shwepyithar ward. Although Thimyit dam was built in Haka to supply the water, the dam is dwindling in quality and now, it is under renovation.

“I am selling the water with the three-wheeled vehicle for two rounds per day. Our family could earn around Ks60,000 per day. I have to send the water mostly to Hakathit, said a local water seller.

Normally water is available only from the mountain stream in old Haka town . The water sellers are carrying the water from Old Haka town and Thi river and sell them back.
