State Counsellor, UN human rights envoy hold talks

January 18, 2017
State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi held talks with Ms. Yanghee Lee, the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Myanmar, over the peace-making process, efforts for promoting human rights, the situation in Kachin and northern Shan states, which saw armed conflicts recently, and promoting the sending of humanitarian aid to the areas.

At the meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday, Ms Yanghee Lee strongly denounced the violent attacks on border outposts in northern Rakhine in November and October and openly discussed with the State Counsellor the allegations of human right abuses by security forces in northern Rakhine during area clearance operations and increasing humanitarian aid to the state.
