Number of circular train commuters rising due to unfamiliarity with new bus routes

January 16, 2017
On the first day the new bus service system, passengers who are not familiar with the new bus routes have turned to circular trains and the number of daily commuters on the circular trains yesterday increased from 80,000 to 100,000.

The average number of regular circular train commuters increased to around 77,000 from 65,000 on the public holidays. On weekends, the number reaches more than 80,000 per day.
Authorities are now arranging to link the new public transport bus lines and the circular trains. With the use of government funds, bus gates are planned to be constructed within the compound of Yangon Railways Station where the public buses can stop.
Myanma Railways put forth continuous efforts to offer better services to its commuters through several railway improvement projects. The MR estimates that the number of commuters is likely to continue to increase after the current projects are completed.
In collaboration with Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the MR is implementing railway improvement projects including repair of railroads, replacement of carriages and installation of modern signals and communication systems to run all railways yards and workshop to full capacity.
Myanma Railways daily operates its transport service business with 38 high-speed trains, 56 postal trains, 58 cargo trains, 215 Yangon circulator trains and 20 more trains which run only short trips.
