Ms Yanghee Lee visits Sittway, Rakhine State

Ms Yanghee Lee, Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights in Myanmar, arrived in Sittway, Rakhine State yesterday evening by air.

At about 4.45 pm, Ms Yanghee Lee and party discussed with the Cabinet members led by the Rakhine State Cabinet’s Chief Minister U Nyi Pu.
Afterward, Ms Yanghee Lee and party met with leaders of Islam Community at the Islam Mia school in Aung Mingalar ward, Sittway, inspecting round the ward.
Before departing to Rakhine State, Ms Yanghee Lee, Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights in Myanmar, met with responsible officials from Peace Commission at the National Reconciliation & Peace Center in Kamayut township, Yangon yesterday morning.
In the meeting, Dr Tin Myo Win, chairman of the Peace Commission and members replied to the queries raised by Ms Yanghee Lee, concerning the activities of the Peace Commission and the preparation on 2nd Meeting of the Union Peace Conference—21st Century Panglong.
In answer to the questions raised by Ms Yanghee Lee and party, U Win Mra, chairman of the Myanmar national human rights commission and members clarified at the Office of the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission in Hlaing township.
Then, Ms Yanghee Lee and party went to the Insein Correctional Department, enquiring inmates—two convicts and another two under trial separately.
