Union
Day, which falls on 12 February, will be observed with the theme of helping the
Union Peace Conference—21st Century Panglong, U Myint Swe, Vice-President and
Chairman of the Central Committee, said yesterday.
He
made the remark at the 2nd coordination meeting of the central committee for
convening the 70th anniversary Union Day 2017 celebration held in the meeting
room of the Office of the President. The 70th anniversary of Union Day will be
observed in accord with the national objectives — awakening Union Spirit,
strengthening national solidarity, emergence of the Federal Democratic Union
and progress of the socio-economy of the people.
“We
must implement for the success of these objectives. For our country, Union Day
is a day of great importance. Presently, the country is building
whole-heartedly for the achievement of peace and national unity that is very
important for the whole nation,” said the Vice President.
The
Vice President also stressed the need for carrying out respective duties on
friendly terms, keeping aware of security in order to hold the celebration.
Later
during the meeting, Dr Myo Aung, Chairman of Nay Pyi Taw Council and chairman
of the management committee for convening the 70th Anniversary of the 2017
Union Day, clarified financial matters and arrangements for the successful
celebration of the event in accord with the Union Day Objectives, followed by
explanations by chairmen and members of the sub-committees — matters on
security, hospitality, accommodation, transport, theme, finance, invitations,
entertainment, flag-hoisting, billboard erection, official dinners, accounts,
information centers and other necessities.
In
the concluding address, the Vice-President said that “fourteen sub-committees
have been formed to carry out respective duties. It is needed to continually
check the necessary matters to successfully finish the celebrations.”
Present
at the ceremony were Union Day Celebration Central Committee members Union
Ministers— Thura U Aung Ko and U Nai Thet Lwin, and sub-committee
chairmen—deputy ministers and sub-committee members.
