Vice President, Pyithu Hluttaw Speaker, assist IDPs in Muse

Vice President U Henry Van Thio and Pyithu Hluttaw Speaker U Win Myint met with internally displaced persons in Muse, offering them assistance.

In addition to the vice president and the speaker, the delegation comprised Union Ministers Lt-Gen Kyaw Swe, Lt-Gen Ye Aung and Dr Win Myat Aye and members of parliament.

At a meeting with IDPs sheltering at No. 2 Basic Education High School, Vice President U Henry Van Thio expressed his delight to fulfill the needs of the IDPs, encouraging them to have strong spirit to overcome all obstacles.

Speaker U Win Myint also clarified the purpose of the trip, saying he would provide cash assistance collected from the wages of MPs to IDPs.

The delegation also visited St. Peter’s Church, where IDPs are being sheltered, and presented aid including food and household goods.

At the meeting, Vice President U Henry Van Thio expressed his concerns for ethnic areas which have lagged behind in development, expressing his sympathy to the ethnic people.

He also said that the government is committed to ending the ethnic armed conflicts that have dragged on in the country for more than 60 years. The vice president pledged to solve the issue at the 21st Century Panglong Conference with inclusiveness by inviting all ethnic armed groups.

Speaker U Win Myint said that the parliament has documented a proposal that has expressed concern for the ethnic people so not to affect the sovereignty and the rule of law.

The delegation also met with family members of the deceased and injured service personnel at Aung San Thuriya Aye Cho Hall of the Muse District Police Force.

The delegation encouraged family members and presented aid and assistance to them at the meeting.
