December 19, 2016
The designation of the Pontaung Ponnya region of Gangaw township in Magwe Region as an ecotourism area was one of the topics discussed at the most recent meeting of the Pyithu Hluttaw.

“Designation of the region as ecotourism area can make the youths have access to job opportunities in the local area. And it can control the smuggling of wood, making the national revenue increase. Sustainable conservation of the natural environment can be carried out and prices of local products will be able to be raised. The motion was submitted to the Hluttaw to be able to set up a profitable industry with a few amounts of capital,” said Daw Yin Min Hlaing of the Gangaw constituency in Magwe region to the 17th Meeting of 3rd Regular Session, 2nd Pyithu Hluttaw held yesterday.
She added that “Ecotourism means organised holidays and vacations that are designed so that the tourists damage the environment as little as possible, especially when some of the money they pay is used to protect the local environment and animals. For the environment to be conserved in natural ways, construction of infrastructure by the use of local products, generating electrical power through solar and wind energy, giving care to the use of water without wastage, keeping natural environment and enemies from being harmed, practising of trashing wastage, inclusion of demanding sports such as cycling, walking and rowing are especially included in the implementation of the project.”
In other news from the Pyithu Hluttaw, it is learnt that the Pontaung Ponnya region is situated in the border area of Sagaing and Magwe Regions, with two mountain ranges linking south and north. To the east, there is the Pontaung mountain range, with Ponnya to the west. It is the region which produces rare species of birds, orchards and wood.
