NSPNC and NSCN-K (AM) meet to strengthen regional stability, development

 

The National Solidarity and Peacemaking Negotiation Committee (NSPNC) held a meeting with a delegation from the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khaplang (NSCN-K) (Ang Mai) at the Mingala Thiri Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday morning, focusing on regional stability, development, and long-term peacebuilding initiatives in the Naga region.

Welcoming the delegation, NSPNC Chairman Lt-Gen Yar Pyae highlighted the government’s ongoing support for the Naga Self-Administered Zone, including Union budget allocations and loan programmes aimed at overcoming geographic isolation and improving infrastructure, education, and healthcare services. He emphasized that regional stability is essential for socio-economic progress and urged the NSCN-K (Ang Mai) to prioritize peace across the region, adding that political goals could be addressed through constructive negotiations within the framework of existing laws.

In response, U Chin Maung, a Central Executive Committee member of the NSCN-K (Ang Mai) and chairman of its Peacebuilding Committee, expressed appreciation for the invitation to the peace talks. He noted that, while conflicts persist in various parts of the country, the Naga region has remained peaceful and stable. He reiterated his group’s commitment to preserving this stability and cooperating with the government to promote sustainable development, trust-building, and mutually agreed peace arrangements.

During the session, representatives from both sides discussed practical steps to maintain regional peace, manage local political and socioeconomic affairs, establish liaison offices, arrange future high-level talks, and coordinate with the military and relevant government departments on security, ceasefire arrangements, and infrastructure projects.

NSPNC Secretary Lt-Gen Min Naing outlined key principles for effective participation in the peace process, emphasizing the need for a genuine commitment to peace, adherence to the 2008 Constitution, and unified efforts among local ethnic communities to ensure long-term stability and security.

The meeting concluded with closing remarks by Lt-Gen Yar Pyae and an exchange of commemorative gifts, following a vote of thanks delivered by U Chin Maung.
