Gas output increases from Maubin Well No 22

 

The Ministry of Electricity and Energy’s Myanma Oil and Gas Enterprise (MOGE) is continuing efforts to increase domestic oil and natural gas production to help meet the country’s growing energy demand.

As part of these efforts, seismic surveys were conducted in the Maubin (South) and Sakkaw areas of the Ayeyawady Region, while studies and perforation work on thin gas-bearing sand layers were carried out at the Maubin, Nyaungdon and Aphauk oilfields in Ayeyawady and Yangon regions.

At the Maubin oilfield, extended perforation work was previously undertaken at wells No 18, 20, 16 and 14, resulting in daily natural gas production of about 6.8 million cubic feet. The gas has been supplied to compressed natural gas filling stations in Yangon Region.

On 12 June 2026, MOGE conducted extended perforation work on a sand layer at Well No 22 in the Maubin (South) oil and gas field. The well is now producing about 1.4 million cubic feet of natural gas per day.

The extra output will be distributed to fertilizer plants, factories and workshops, as well as compressed natural gas filling stations in Yangon and Ayeyawady regions.

In line with its motto, “The nation’s natural resources for the people,” the ministry is implementing both short-term and long-term plans to expand oil and natural gas exploration and production, while reducing dependence on imported energy and promoting the development of domestic energy resources, according to official reports.
