Firmly join hands in defying the possible cyclonic storm

POSSIBILITY is not a dead sure forecast but it is necessary to take special care of everything without reluctant efforts. In the case of weather forecasts, everybody wishes to be true for fine weather but they wish to be wrong for bad ones. European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecast (ECMWF), Global Forecast System (GFS) and the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology of Myanmar have issued weather forests that the occurrence of a storm from the low-pressure area in the Bay of Bangel on 8 May might change to a stronger cyclone and enter Yangon and Ayeyawady Region (or) coastal region of Myanmar.

These organizations also mentioned their forecasts that the cyclonic storm will enter the coastal regions of Myanmar in two ways. The first one is between Pyapon Township and Kungyangon townships of the Yangon Region and the second one is between Sittway and Kyaukpyu townships passing through Rakhine coastal region.

Actually, they all issued relevant forecasts. They admitted that the exact way of such a storm is expected to enter Myanmar on 13 and 14 May after causing a depression in the Bay of Bengal. Due to possible effects of the storm, the likelihood of isolated to scattered rain or thundershowers will happen in Nay Pyi Taw, Upper Sagaing, Mandalay, Magway, Bago, Yangon, Ayeyawady and Taninthayi regions and Kachin, Shan, Kayin and Mon states.

The proper preparations should be made now as the country has experienced storms. Of the storms, the 2008 Nargis cyclone left regrettable losses. If the storm changes its ways, the preparations will benefit us as practices. Therefore, preparation is a must. Hence, not only government service personnel but the entire people are to join hands in taking preventive measures against the storm so as to minimize loss of life and property in the terrible event.

All the people residing in possible storm-prone areas need to follow the protocols on disaster risk reduction released by authorities and relevant ministries. The government also opens its Disaster Management Centre at the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement on 8 May for solving the cyclone-related measures in a timely manner.

Myanmar experienced bitter days of cyclonic storm Nargis in 2008. Nobody wishes to see a similar scene in storm-hit areas. So, they all embrace the same attitude to protect their property against disasters as much as possible. The same idea and attitude are the best strength among the people to overcome the challenges of a possible severe storm.
