Narcotics seized in Maungtaw

Yesterday morning in Maungtaw, around 185,000 amphetamine tablets were seized from a boat floating along Naf River and 9,750 amphetamine tablets were seized from a house in Myomataung ward.


A naval security troop was on patrol when they spotted a suspicious looking boat sailing in the direction of Bangladesh around 3 in the morning. Chasing in pursuit, they were able to seize the boat in Myanmar waters and apprehended the 4 people on board along with gunny sacks full of 185,000 tablets of the WY drugs worth an estimated Ks 370 million. The gunny sacks were opened at the inspection gate in Maungtaw Township.

Similarly, around 7 in the morning a joint group with border security troops searched the house of 32 year old Maung Hla Win (also known as) Mahmoud Yiyas in Ngakuya Village, Maungtaw. They discovered under a table in the basement around 9,750 tablets of the WY drugs worth an estimated Ks 19.5 million and an Honor Smartphone used in the drug transactions.

It is reported that the arrested suspects are under legal proceedings.
