STATE COUNSELLOR Daw Aung San Suu Kyi arrived at the National
University of Public Service in Hungary at 10 a.m. local standard time yesterday,
where she was welcomed by Rector Dr. Andras Koltay and officials.
The State Counsellor then addressed an audience consisting of
the rector, professors, staff and students of the university. She talked at
length on Myanmar’s democratic transition process, efforts towards internal
peace and national reconciliation, endeavours for implementing peace, stability
and development in Rakhine State, initiating education reforms, bilateral
cooperation between Myanmar and Hungary on education, and promoting interaction
between the peoples of both countries.
Following this, the State Counsellor answered questions raised
by the students and then handed over souvenirs to the rector.
Next, the State Counsellor travelled to the Hungarian Parliament
Building where she met with Mrs. Márta Mátrai, First Officer of the National
Assembly.
During the meeting, they exchanged similar experiences Myanmar
and Hungary went through in their respective democratic transitions, discussed
promoting cooperation between the parliaments of both countries and developing
their skills.
Afterwards, the State Counsellor was treated to a luncheon
hosted by Mr. Zsolt Németh, Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the
National Assembly.
From there, the State Counsellor attended the opening ceremony
of the Hungary-Myanmar Business Forum held at the Marriott Hotel in Budapest
and delivered a speech.
Next, the State Counsellor met with the Myanmar Ambassador, embassy
staff and Myanmar scholars pursuing education in Hungary at the Kempinski
Hotel.
Union Ministers U Thaung Tun and U Kyaw Tin, Ambassador U Myo
Aye and officials also attended the meeting and the economic forum.
