At the Bone Marrow Transplant Centre under the Department of Haematology at Yangon General Hospital, two patients with lymphoma successfully underwent bone marrow transplant procedures in December 2025. As their conditions had improved and they were in good health, they were discharged from the hospital yesterday.
The
two patients are a 54-year-old man from Kyimyindine Township in Yangon Region
and a 58-year-old woman from Lanmadaw Township. The bone marrow transplant
procedures were carried out through the combined efforts of professors and
specialist physicians from the Department of Haematology, experts from related
departments, skilled nurses, and supporting staff, working together as a
multidisciplinary team.
At
Yangon General Hospital, bone marrow transplants were performed on three
patients in 2016, three in 2017, four in 2018, one in 2019, one in 2020, three
in 2024, and ten patients to date in 2025, bringing the total number of
patients treated to 25. It was also reported that bone marrow transplant
services will continue to be provided domestically to reduce healthcare costs for
the public.
