Accurate news is priority of state-run media: Union Minister

THE Ministry of Information and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) jointly organized a New Media Training and Discussion session yesterday at the ministry in Nay Pyi Taw.

At the event, Union Minister for Information Dr Pe Myint stressed the importance of switching from traditional media to new media, and highlighted the important role of new media in the development of state-owned and private media.

Quick dissemination is considered as an important characteristic of media, said the Union Minister, adding that new media helps spread more news quickly and easily at any given time, without the limitation of audiences, boundaries, and time.

While changes are underway, newsreaders are increasingly using new media, said Dr Pe Myint, adding that new media has its advantages and disadvantages, and pointed out that stemming the disadvantages would not be enough, and everyone is obliged to effectively distribute accurate news that benefits the public through new media.

As the configuration and development of technology of media have changed, the products of the media must be changed, he added.

To provide accurate news to the public, educate, and provide clean entertainment are the objectives of the state-owned media, and it will never deviate from those objectives, said the Union Minister.

The Union Minister said the purpose of the training is for effective implementation on these objectives by learning modern media technology.

Afterwards, Minister Counsellor Li Xuhang made the welcoming remarks.

The two-day course will conclude on 12 September.

Deputy Minister U Aung Hla Tun, Permanent Secretary U Myo Myint Maung, directors-general, managing directors, officials from the Chinese Embassy, trainers, trainees from departments and enterprise of the Ministry of Information, and officials also attended the event.
