Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing
received Turkish Ambassador Mr. Kerem Divanlioglu in Bayinnaung Retreat in Nay
Pyi Taw yesterday.
At the meeting, the Ambassador expressed his interest in the culture of Myanmar
and upon his visit to the Defence Services Museum discovered that Turkey and
Myanmar have had relations since the time of King Anawratha about a thousand
years ago. He then went on to discuss matters relating to airways between the
two countries, the development of education and economic sector, cooperation
with the Tatmadaw, problems Turkey is facing with national security and
democracy.
The Senior General talked on the friendly relations between the two countries
and the advanced civilization of the ancient Turkey Empire. He said there are
many areas of cooperation available between the two countries’ militaries such
as cooperation for counter-terrorism as one country alone cannot effectively
combat terrorism. Later on, they discussed about Myanmar’s Peace Process, which
included the Union Peace Conference-21st Century Panglong, development efforts
in Rakhine State with importance on compiling statistics.
