President U Htin Kyaw,
his wife and entourage met with the clergy from the Holy Christian Associations
at the Saramayri Rest House of Lahe yesterday morning in Lahe, Sagaing Region.
After their meeting
with the clergy, the President and party flew from Lahe to Namyum, were they
were welcomed by Brigadier Myint Soe, U Wan Hla, representative of the Pyithu
Hluttaw, town-elders, members of a traditional cultural troupe and other
officials. The President then proceeded to Namyum Hospital, where he gave words
of encouragement to the patients, providing them with foodstuff and monetary
assistance, followed by a meeting with a traditional cultural troupe, locals
and township officials. In the
meeting that followed, U Wan Hla, Pyithu Hluttaw representative and U Shwe Lan,
Vice-Chairman of Naga Literature and Culture Committee outlined the needs of
the region.
In response, the
President said the Union Government would fulfil the needs of the region as
much as possible, noting that the Union Government has been assisting in the
development of all regions and states.
Afterwards,
Lieutenant-General Ye Aung, Union Minister, explained the acquisition of clean
drinking water and the production of hydro-power. Dr Win Myat Aye, Union
Minister, spoke of the importance of nutritious food during the time of
pregnancy up to the age of two years. Upgrading the schools was addressed by Dr Myo
Thein Gyi, Union Minister. Provision of ambulances and vaccinations for
protection and eradication of malaria was discussed by Dr Myint Htwe, Union
Minister. Upgrading the Khamti-Lahe-Namyum Road and preparations for building
the bridge were explained by U Win Khaing, Union Minister.
The President then gave
relief supplies to U Zaw Maw Aung, Chairman of the Township Management
Committee and U Wan Hla, the Pyithu Hluttaw representative for the development
of the area. The President and party left Namyum by helicopter, arriving back
in Nay Pyi Taw the same day.
